An aggressive man who taunted a guard to “go on and arrest me” and then took off on a lap around a block in Cork city centre got his wish when the guard knocked him to the ground and arrested him.

Rodney Haynes first came to the attention of Garda Karl Griffin on Oliver Plunkett St in Cork on the night of July 1. He was acting aggressively at the time and Garda Griffin told him to desist.

Haynes challenged the guard to arrest him and then took off running down Winthrop Street, turned on to Winthrop Lane, around to Caroline Street at back on to Oliver Plunkett Street at 9.15pm when the streets were full of people.
