VIDEO: Apple launches 13-inch iPad Pro

Apple has officially announced the launch of a new, bigger tablet computer called the iPad Pro. The firm’s chief Tim Cook called it the “biggest news in iPad since the iPad” as he unveiled the Pro, which will have a 32.7cm screen.

The screen resolution on the new iPad Pro will be better than that of a MacBook Pro, says Apple, as Mr Cook called it ā€œour vision of the future of personal computingā€.

The iPad Pro will also be the first to have four speakers in it — one in each corner. It will also come with a keyboard, built into a new case.

This is a similar layout to Microsoft’s extremely popular Surface tablet.

The Apple rival even made a surprise appearance at the announcement — giving a demo of Microsoft Office working on the Pro.

The iPad Pro will also come with a stylus called the Apple Pencil. This is despite late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs famously once saying: ā€œIf you see a stylus, they blew it.ā€

The announcement came at a live event in San Francisco, where Apple also showed its new-found love of fashion will continue, as the Apple Watch maker confirmed a new ā€œfall lineā€ of watch straps for autumn.

Apple said the iPad Pro will go on sale in November, in three colours and with prices starting at €713.

The firm also announced the iPad mini 4, which Apple’s Phil Schiller said has the same internals as the larger iPad Air 2, but in the mini’s size.

A much rumoured revamp of the Apple TV will also be carried out, with Apple’s voice assistant technology Siri now integrated.

Mr Cook said: ā€œOur vision is simple and perhaps a little provocative. We believe the future of TV is apps, and it’s already started.ā€
