Teen in custody over house raid charge

A teenager, charged over a house raid where a mother allegedly escaped by jumping from an upstairs window clutching her baby, has been remanded in custody.

Teen in custody over house raid charge

The boy, aged 16, is one of two youths charged with burglary at an address in Tallaght on June 7. He had been granted bail with several strict conditions, including having to sign on at a Garda station daily, obey a curfew and not associate with another youth.

However, he later skipped court and was picked up in Galway. Judge James Faughnan was told at Dublin Children’s Court that the teen also breached the curfew condition six times.

Defence solicitor Aenghus McCarthy told Judge Faughnan that a bail application was not being made and his client consented to being remanded in custody to appear again next week.

No plea was entered but at the next hearing a ruling could be made as to whether his trial will held in the juvenile court or be sent forward to the Circuit Court.

Earlier, the Children’s Court was told gardaí had fears there would be witness intimidation. Garda Colin Hetherington said it was alleged there was a riot outside the house and the defendant and another boy were allegedly seen going inside.

It was alleged the woman “jumped out the bedroom window with her 18-month old baby in her hands”.
