Which pretty pooch will win at the Nose of Tralee?

As 32 lovely ladies prepare for the Rose of Tralee this week, 31 pretty pooches, and one horse, are also readying for their close-ups — tomorrow, one of them will be crowned the Nose of Tralee.

Pet owners across the country have submitted 800 applications to organisers, Pet Sitters Ireland. A panel of judges, which included Buster, the first Nose of Tralee, who was top dog last year, selected the finalists, who now go to a public vote.

The Kerry Nose is leading, with 12,000 votes, while the Dublin Nose is second, with 11,000. It’s a ‘two-horse’ race — the Limerick Nose is third, with 3,000 votes, followed by the Cork Nose, who has 2,000. Noses from Meath and Kilkenny are also just shy of the 2,000 mark.

Ginger, the Kerry Nose, is keeping her paws crossed that she won’t be out-voted by the Dubs. Her owner, Stacey Wallace, said the little corgi’s rescue story resonates with pet owners nationwide and said Ginger would be a worthy winner. “Ginger was rescued in 2012 by Animal Help Net Kerry, after living in the wild for months and needed a lot of patience and TLC. She was so scared of everything,” she said. “Her many fears have been reduced drastically. She loves going for walks, loves her comfort, loves her food”. The winner will receive a professional photoshoot from David McAuley Photography and a €200 voucher for Pet Sitters Ireland. The runner-up will get a €150 pet hamper and a €100 voucher.
