Man drove 80mph on wrong side

Richard Brazier finally came to a halt after hitting a wall in the Woodlawn estate on the southern end of the town, having circled the town on Friday afternoon in a chase with gardaí that lasted half an hour.

Brazier of Doire Álainn, Killarney, appeared at a special sitting of Killorglin District Court on Saturday on charges of dangerous driving in a vehicle allegedly stolen near Castlemaine on Friday afternoon.

Gardaí objected to bail and remanded him in custody.

A Garda witness said Mr Brazier drove on the wrong side of the road on several occasions and took a number of roundabouts the wrong way before crashing into a wall at the Woodlawn estate.

His solicitor Padraig O’Connell said his client was on methadone treatment, had no means and lived with his mother.

Two previous bench warrants had been issued for him when he failed to turn up in court on drugs charges.

Judge James O’Connor granted legal aid, refused bail and remanded him to appear in Killarney District Court tomorrow.
