Three charged over Irishwoman’s post-abortion death
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said detectives from its Homicide and Major Crime Command unit began an investigation following the death of the woman who had travelled from Ireland for the abortion at the clinic in 2012.
Dr Adedayo Adedeji, aged 62, has been charged with manslaughter, ‘namely by gross negligence and failing to take reasonable care of other persons who may be affected by acts or omissions at work,’ contrary to Health Acts.
Nurses Gemma Pullen , 31, and Margaret Miller, 54, have also been charged with the same offences. All three will appear at Ealing Magistrates ’ Court on June 19.
From 1980 until 2013 at least 158,252 Irish women travelled to Britain for abortions. In 2013, 3,679 women provided Irish addresses at British abortion clinics. They constituted 67.3% of all recorded abortions carried out on non-British residents.
