Man danced on takeaway counter and hit customer
Dungloe District Court heard yesterday that Shaun O’Donnell, who works in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, was dancing on April 14 on top of the 4 Lanterns counter in Main St, Letterkenny.
Sgt Joe Kealy told the court that when customer Joe McCarron asked O’Donnell to get down he did but he then carried out an attack.
He struck Mr McCarron in the cheek, knocking him to the floor. He was unconscious briefly and was taken to hospital and was off work for two weeks. He incurred dental expenses of €100 for damage to his teeth.
Defence solicitor Patsy Gallagher said O’Donnell, who admitted the attack, was remorseful for it and considered that he was “acting the eejit”.
O’Donnell, of New Cottages, Fintown, pleaded guilty to assault causing harm on Mr McCarron.
The court heard O’Donnell was earning up to £800 sterling tax-free a week in Saudi Arabia.
Judge Paul Kelly said it was a very violent and totally uncalled for assault.
O’Donnell lodged €2,000 in court for compensation. Judge Kelly said at least another €1,000 must be added.
He adjourned the case for completion at Letterkenny District Court on July 21.
