Adams blames dissidents for bomb alert at home

The party leader described how police in the North arrived at his family home in west Belfast with sniffer dogs after an alert was raised about a bomb threat.

“The people behind this are probably focused stupidly on the British general election and it totally and absolutely runs against any sense of decency or fairness.

He said the bomb alert was phoned into a local newspaper and a code used. The newspaper then contacted Sinn Féin who then contacted the PSNI.

“The precincts of the house were checked out by sniffer dogs and so on,” he said. He said the threats and attacks were “cowardly”.

“Martin McGuinness has made it clear in his opinion that these are so-called dissidents, they have no popular support for their actions. They have no rhyme or reason,” he said.

The threat to Mr Adams’s family home comes after threats against other Sinn Féin officials. The house of Martin McGuinness was attacked by a paint bomb this week while his grandchildren were inside his Derry home.

MEP Martina Anderson also received bomb alerts at her home.
