Yvonne Long, aged 30 from Curraghcase, Kilcornan, was returning to Krakow in Poland with her Norwegian husband, Soren and their two children when their car was in collision with another vehicle.

She died on impact along with her daughter aged three. Their other child, a baby aged six months and her husband were treated for injuries.

Yvonne was daughter of John Long a well known figure in horse racing circles and his wife Angela. Her uncle Ronnie Long is a leading figure in Irish athletics.

The couple, who live in Norway, had travelled to Lithuania for a friend’s wedding.

A family friend said last night: “They were driving to Krakow in Poland to get a return flight to Norway when the accident happened. Yvonne moved to Norway about four years ago where she met her husband. We got the awful news this afternoon and everybody is devastated. Yvonne studied in college in Edinburgh for some time.”
