A 7-year-old boy who was catastrophically injured during his birth at Cavan General Hospital has settled his High Court action with an interim payout of €2.1m.

Mr Justice Kevin Cross was told yesterday that Cavan General Hospital had admitted liability at an early stage in the case and apologised to Patrick Brannigan and his parents.

Counsel Denis McCullough told the court that Patrick, from Annyalla, Castleblayeny, Co Monaghan, has dyskinetic cerebral palsy, is confined to a wheelchair, and has no means of communicating.
