RTÉ show ’Future Shock’ was ‘scaremongering’ on property bust

A commercial real estate expert has claimed the RTÉ show which predicted the crash was “scaremongering” and the much maligned “soft landing” could have happened if the global economic crisis did not occur.

Marie Hunt, head of research at CBRE, made the remarks at a banking inquiry meeting, insisting while the boom-and-bust era was unhealthy it was not the fault of estate agents.

Speaking to the cross-party body, Ms Hunt said despite RTÉ’s April 2007 Future Shock show being seen as predicting the crash, it was “scaremongering”.
