Croke Park holds camogie race abuse inquiry

Croke Park officials are investigating an alleged racial abuse incident involving teenage girls during a camogie match.

The chairman of the Limerick camogie board, Seán Condon, confirmed a complaint had been made following a junior game.

Mr Condon said that the matter had been handed over to the “appropriate committee” in Croke Park.

According to well-placed sources, team officials were shocked when one of their players was shouted at by an opposition player using what it is alleged was a racist term.

Both players involved in the incident are teenagers.

Following the game, the Limerick camogie authorities commenced an investigation after the matter was brought to their attention.

They referred it to the player welfare committee in Croke Park which initiated an investigation.

Mr Condon said: “It is being dealt with by the appropriate independent committee in Croke Park.

“It relates to an alleged abusive comment and it came to us by way of complaint and we passed it on to the appropriate authority in Croke Park. They are still looking at it.

“There is a lot of stuff being said about it, but it is still under investigation as Croke Park are not finished with it.

“I am not going to say anything about it while Croke Park are dealing with it. We want this dealt with appropriately.”
