Killarney’s hotels are the most expensive in Ireland at €111 a night, it has emerged.

The Kerry tourist town is even more expensive than Dublin, where the average price is €109 a night.

Hotel prices in Killarney have only risen by 5% in the past year, compared to Dublin, which saw the biggest price rise in Ireland at 13%.

However, Killarney, an international tourist haven, has a wealth of four- and five-star hotels and its rates have tended to remain robust.

The latest hotel price index from Hotels.com show that Irish hotel prices rose 10% last year to an average €103 per night.

Limerick prices rose by 12% last year but the Treaty City still Ireland’s best-value destination, with a hotel room costing an average of €76 per night.

The promotion of the Wild Atlantic Way by Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland inflated hotel prices in Sligo (+3%), Cork (+7%), and Galway (+3%).

Hotel prices in Belfast are up 12%, while Kilkenny saw the smallest increase at 2%.

While 2014 was the fourth consecutive year that hotel prices have risen, Ireland remains a value destination.

Higher visitor numbers, additional air routes, and events-based tourism have all contributed to the recovery.

The index is based on bookings on Hotels.com, with prices based on rates paid by customers around the world. Globally, hotel room prices increased by 3%.
