Dublin Fire Brigade ‘seeking proof of compliance’
Has the fire brigade reached an agreement with Michael Slattery and Assoc, acting on behalf of the Dublin Docklands Development Authority, about a schedule of works to rectify problems in Longboat Quay?
Is the fire brigade happy about any timeline thereof?
Was evacuation considered and, if so, on what grounds was it rejected?
Is the interim solution of so-called fire marshals patrolling the buildings satisfactory, even though they are being withdrawn as the fire alarm is upgraded?
How will the fire brigade satisfy itself that any agreed solution will be carried out in full?
Will the fire brigade have a staff member on site while the works are being completed? If not, how frequent would site visits be?
Statement from Dublin Fire Brigade:
DFB have received a comprehensive submission from the Fire Safety Consultants in relation to this development and are continuing discussions with regard to the timeline of works completion.
Following discussions with the Fire Safety Consultants and other relevant stakeholders in relation to the risk management strategy, the evacuation of the blocks was not considered appropriate. The provision of fire marshals was an element of this strategy pending upgrades to the fire alarm system.
Under the Fire Services Act 1981 & 2003, the responsibility for compliance rests with the owners / occupiers, Dublin Fire Brigade will seek proof of compliance from a competent and qualified professional.
