Irons to present traditional ‘Oscars’ in Cork

The honorary Corkman, who spends most of his time at Kilcoe Castle, near Skibbereen, is known to be a fan of traditional music and will be among those presenting awards to musicians being recognised for their outstanding achievements across six strands of Irish traditional music.

The ceremony will also include a concert featuring an all-star line-up. They include big names like Máirtín O’Connor, Cathal Hayden, Jimmy Higgins and Brendan O’Regan, as well as Máirtín O’Connor, Donal Lunny and Zoe Conway.

Other performers include Bobby Gardiner, Lynda Gardiner and Carol Talty, Liam O’Flynn, Paddy Glackin, Neil Martin, Mícheál O Súilleabháin, Ensemble Ériu and Pulses of Tradition.

The concert itself will be hosted by RTÉ personality Dáithí Ó Sé and Aoife Ní Thuairisg.

The organisers have said that tickets for the concert are selling fast and people who don’t apply soon could lose out.

However, the good news is that those disappointed can still tune in to see the event which will be shown live on TG4 at 9.30pm.

It is being presented by TG4, in association with Cork City Council.

Tickets are priced at €25 and are available from the Cork Opera House at cork operahouse.ie or by calling 021 4270022.
