Cabinet to discuss ban on commercial surrogacy

Leo Varadkar, the health minister, is expected to today discuss plans at Cabinet on banning commercial surrogacy and regulating how families can use a surrogate to have children.

The regulations will be discussed as the Cabinet also considers legislation which will give adoption rights to same-sex couples.

The Coalition is examining a range of legislative measures around adoption and human reproduction ahead of the planned same-sex-marriage referendum in May.
