Health Minister Leo Varadkar has been accused of failing to appreciate the suffering of patients and continuing the “mismanagement” of his predecessor James Reilly — despite announcing new measures to tackle the hospital overcrowding crisis.

Addressing the ongoing situation yesterday morning, Mr Varadkar said he is “redoubling” efforts to address the problems which have dogged him in recent weeks.

More than 300 people were waiting on hospital trolleys yesterday.
