A bar in Cavan was also prosecuted by the Food Safety Authority for selling counterfeit vodka.
The Eddie Rocket’s outlet in Arklow’s Bridgewater Shopping Centre and a Spar supermarket on Douglas St, Cork, were both ordered by the FSAI to close for a day.
The Long Thanh take-away on North Strand Rd, Dublin, was also closed for a day.
The Adana Char Grill at Cornmarket in Limerick was closed for a week and the FSAI shut Kebabish Original on Richmond St South in Dublin 2 for 10 days.
Outlining the orders, the authority’s CEO, Alan Reilly
said: “It is not acceptable for any food business to potentially put their customers’ health at risk.”
Five successful prosecutions were taken, including one in relation to the sale of counterfeit vodka at Hughie’s Bar, Church St, Kingscourt, Cavan. The bar was fined €7,000 after pleading guilty to four offences after below-strength counterfeit Smirnoff Red Label vodka was discovered on the premises in December 2013.
A successful prosecution was taken against the Smoke House in High St, Killarney, Co Kerry. Ruposhi Indian Restaurant, Quinn’s pub, both in Drumcondra, Dublin, and the Saffron Tandoori takeaway in Cabra, Dublin were also prosecuted.
The Afghan Grill and Kebab on Dublin’s Richmond St South has been shut since January 19 and Fei’s Garden Restaurant at Hamlet Lane in Balbriggan, Co Dublin, has been closed since January 27.
A fruit and vegetable processing premises occupied by Mohammad Rafi at Cloughan’s Crossroads, Ballynacor, Delvin, Co Westmeath, is closed since January 29 and the old bottle and ice store-room at Swan Bar in Swanlinbar, Co Cavan remains closed since January 30. An eight-day prohibition order was also made by Mayo County Council’s veterinary inspectors against Gerry Joyce Meats in Castlebar.
