A Co Meath garda whose legs were crushed in a brutal repeated assault in August 2015 has been awarded €975,000 compensation by the High Court.

The Food Safety Authority said there was no justification for businesses to be in breach of the food safety legislation, after 11 enforcement orders were served last month on hotels, restaurants, takeaway and wholesale providers.

An Eddie Rocket’s diner in Arklow and the delicatessen area of a Cork supermarket were among nine premises served with a closure order last month for food safety legislation breaches.
