A two-pronged approach will be required to resolve the hospital overcrowding crisis, Health Minister Leo Varadkar said yesterday.

A combination of local solutions and national measures would be needed and he intended keeping a relentless focus on the issue over the next couple of months, the minister said.

Mr Varadkar said a third of hospital emergency departments had “chronic overcrowding” for about 15 years.
