The long-lost knitted map of Cork, which cost the taxpayer €259,000 a decade ago, is being taken out of storage and dusted down for its first public display in seven years.

The news emerged last night 10 years to the day since the city’s year-long designation as European Capital of Culture kicked off.

The map’s custodian, Dr Jools Gilson, confirmed that after several months of talks, the tennis-court sized knitted map, which was commissioned as part of the Capital of Culture celebrations, will go on display at the Glucksman Gallery in UCC from April 2 until July.
