Con Ryan, of 50 Doirin Alainn, Killarney, was charged with trespass and theft at 44 St Brendan’s Terrace, Killarney, in the early hours of January 1.

Giving evidence of arrest, charge, and caution at a special sitting of Castleisland District Court on Saturday, Sergeant John Kelly said the accused made no reply when charged on Friday at the Garda station in Killarney.

Saying he would oppose bail, Sgt Kelly said Mr Ryan had 44 previous convictions, 35 of which were serious.

Mr Ryan had 19 previous offences for burglary, 10 for unauthorised taking of a car, one for theft, three for dangerous driving, and two for criminal damage, the garda outlined.

Sgt Kelly said that the accused was on bail when 26 of these offences were committed and that he is currently on bail.

Solicitor Padraig O’Connell said his client would not be applying for bail.

Judge James O’Connor granted legal aid.

The accused has been remanded in custody and will appear in court again tomorrow.
