Irish Water protesters may run candidates in the next general election in a bid to scrap water usage charges which are being introduced from today.

The Right2Water campaign said the move is one of a number of options being considered after controversial legislation putting the new system into place was signed into law earlier this week.

Speaking to the Irish Examiner, a spokesman for the national anti-austerity body said despite the introduction of water charges from today opposition to the billing system has not ended.
