Two killed in road crashes

A motorcyclist was killed in a accident in Dublin yesterday.

In Wexford, a 94-year-old man died after a three-car crash in Murrintown, Co Wexford.

He was taken toWexford General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of

the car, an 80-year-old woman, and the occupants of a second car, a 27-year-old woman and a 4-year-old girl, were also taken to hospital.

Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. The occupants of the third car were uninjured.

In Walkinstown, Dublin, a 44-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured when his motorcycle collided with a car on Ballymount Rd Lower, Walkinstown.

He was taken by ambulance to Tallaght Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver

of the car, a 60-year-old woman, was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Meanwhile, the woman killed in a single-vehicle

crash on Saturday in Co Kerry has been named locally as Catherine Dowling, a married mother of three.

The crash happened on the Ballyduff-Tralee road at Ballincosig Cross, Lixnaw,

shortly before 9am.

Ms Dowling, 50, was killed and her two teenage daughters, passengers in the car,

were removed by ambulance to Tralee General Hospital. It is understood one of the

girls is in a serious condition.

Ms Dowling, originally from Dublin, was a German teacher at Presentation Secondary

School in Tralee. Her husband Michael works as an official with Kerry County Council.

Ballyduff parish priest Fr Brendan Walsh said the community was “devastated” .

Meanwhile, traffic on the N22 Cork-Killarney road was disrupted for several hours by a two-car crash between Macroom and Ballyvourney

at around 1pm yesterday.

It i s understood two elderly occupants of one vehicle and a young female driver of the second were taken to hospital after the incident.
