Beefed-up laws to penalise families and tenants who do not pay their water charges are being postponed until next year.

The Cabinet yesterday agreed on legislation to rubber-stamp the Coalition’s recent revised water charges regime.

This will see capped, set charges for homes until 2019, and mean households pay a maximum of €260 a year.
