Gunpoint robbery by man in dress and wig

A businessman was robbed at gunpoint by a man dressed in women’s clothing in the early hours of yesterday morning.

A large sum of money, believed to be in the region of €15,000, was taken from the victim as he was lodging the cash at a bank deposit box at Rathgar Village in Dublin at 4.45am.

The businessman, 44, is understood to have been depositing the takings from a local pub when he was threatened by the man, dressed in women’s clothing and armed with what gardaí believe was a handgun. It is believed the attacker was wearing a dress and a wig.

The victim was then confronted by a second man.

“Both men drove away from the area, in the direction of Terenure, in a car which had been parked at the scene,” a Garda spokesman said. “The car, with a false registration number 12 CE 1549, is a silver Hyundai i40 with a taxi sign on the roof but has no markings on the doors of the vehicle.”

It has since been recovered in the Harold’s Cross area of Dublin.

Gardaí said the businessman received no injuries.

They appealed for witnesses, particularly anyone who passed the ATM on Terenure Rd East from 4.30am to 4.45am and saw any unusual behaviour, to contact Terenure gardaí on 01 6666 400.
