Kerry is to seek to declare itself an island from the rest of Ireland, a councillor and former All-Ireland football medal winner with Kerry has said.

Cllr Michael Gleeson’s suggestion that the county, normally known as the Kingdom, should be declared an island because of access to it, has received unanimous support.

He said two bypasses to enter the county had been put on hold for years. One was at Adare, Co Limerick, where motorists now were experiencing hours of delays, and the other was at Macroom in Co Cork.
