‘Old people are afraid to flush their toilet’

Gardaí were called to a Limerick housing estate yesterday after protesters prevented Irish Water contractors from installing meters.

Workers arrived at Portland Drive in Ballinacurra Gardens at 7.30am to begin the installation. However, about 50 protesters prevented them from carrying out their work and gardaí were called. The stand-off ended peacefully with contractors removing the barriers and leaving the area.

One woman at the protest claimed old people are afraid to flush their toilets.
