Newly built houses are the most energy efficient, according to an audit of more than half a million Irish homes.

The CSO revealed that 515,732 units underwent a building energy rating (BER) audit between January 2009 and September 2014.

BER ratings range from A to G — with the most energy efficient homes securing an A classification.
