City fall at last hurdle after heroic season

After a predictably close final game, Cork City were ultimately left disappointed when Dundalk landed the most coveted title in Irish football — that of SSE Airtricity Premier Division champions.

Having overtaken the Louth team at the top of the table despite trailing them all season, and being written off in most quarters, the Leesiders went to Oriel Park knowing a draw would see them crowned champions.

The high expectations of the occasion manifested itself in a tense atmosphere at Oriel Park, where 4,000 fans watched a scrappy game unfold in a flurry of crunching tackles.
