More than a dozen people living in Ireland have been tested for ebola after showing symptoms of the potentially fatal virus — but all have been given the all-clear.

The Department of Health’s chief medical officer, Dr Tony Holohan, who led Ireland’s swine flu defence, told an emergency meeting that since the death of 43-year-old Donegal man Dessie Quinn, 13 other people in Ireland have contacted doctors concerned they have ebola.

Of this group — of which the latest case occurred earlier this week in Co Louth — 23 tests have taken place, with none showing any signs of the deadly virus.
