Residents of a housing estate with excessive lead levels in the drinking water have sought an official declaration the supply is unfit for human consumption.

Families in the 300-house St Brendan’s Park in Tralee are making a case to both Irish Water and the HSE to impose a complete ban on use of the water.

Tests carried out both by Kerry County Council and independently on behalf of the residents show the level of lead in pipes going to some of the houses is well in excess of a 10mgs threshold.
