Marta Herda, 27, was brought before Bray District Court to face charges in relation to the death of Csaba Orsas in March 2013.
The body of the Hungarian man was found washed up on a beach in Arklow. He died after the car he was in went off the pier in the town.
Prosecuting officer Garda Anthony Crehan of Arklow Station gave details of Ms Herda’s arrest, charge, and caution at the court.
He said that the defendant was arrested at her home on Emoclew Rd in Arklow yesterday morning and taken to the garda station.
She was charged with the murder of Mr Orsas at South Quay, Arklow, on March 26, 2013.
He told the court that when she was charged with murder she replied: “I did not want this happened.”
The body of Mr Orsas, 31, was discovered on a beach less than two miles from the place where he died near the Avoca river in Arklow.
Ms Herda became upset in court when Judge David Kennedy said she was to be remanded in custody until next week.
Her solicitor, Thomas Honan, said he would make an application to the High Court for bail as well as free legal aid.
Ms Herda is due to appear before Arklow District Court next week.
Mr Orsas had an address at Brookview Court, Arklow, and worked as a waiter at Brooklodge Hotel with Ms Herda.
