Councillor who left FF may yet reclaim destiny

Speculation is growing in Kerry that the former Fianna Fáil and now Independent councillor Michael Cahill, who left the party in 2011 and was crucial to the election of the Independent TD Tom Fleming in Kerry South, is on his way back to Fianna Fáil.

If he does so, it is expected he will seek the party nomination to contest a Dáil seat.

Mr Cahill a parliamentary assistant for Mr Fleming, working out of an office in Killarney town centre, was elected on the first count in the May local elections in South and West Kerry, after he polled more than 2,300 first-preference votes — well ahead of Fianna Fáil candidates.
