Daniel Radcliffe conjures up €50 Dublin taxi fare
Thankfully members of the Dublin minor football team, out celebrating an All-Ireland win, conjured up a €50 note which the Volde-mortified young actor was able to use to get himself back to his hotel.
Now, almost exactly two years later, Radcliffe has honoured his promise to pay them back.
The encounter began in the unlikely setting of Grafton Street at approximately 3am as three of the players were planning to head to the home of their then captain, David Byrne, to continue celebrations.
As they were about to go, a “small enough” man came up to them wearing a hat. A conversation was struck up as they all walked along the street and the identity of their newfound companion suddenly became clear to the threesome.
As they walked past Copper Face Jack’s they tried to use an umbrella to disguise the young actor’s identity from the crowds streaming from the nightclub. However, when it became clear his cover had been blown, they got him in a taxi and back to David Byrne’s house.

After spending a couple of hours with the players and posing for photographs alongside them and the Tommy Markham Cup, Radcliffe decided to call it a night, not least since he was due on set at 8am. However, he then realised he had no money and had to rely on the team’s Conor Mullally and Niall Walsh to bail him out.
Yesterday, Conor Mullally put a message on Twitter which read: “Two years later, Daniel Radcliffe pays us back the taxi fare from that infamous night #gent.”
Along with the money was a note which read: “Hi guys, So thanks again for paying for my cab! I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t honour my word and pay you back. Once again great meeting you all. Hope this covers it!”.
He signed off the letter, which was written on the stationery of Dublin’s Morrison Hotel, “Dan R”
