Meet an alligator’s cousin on Culture Night in UCC

On what promises to be one of the most interesting nights of the year, UCC will play host as one of the venues for Culture Night.
10 minute tales from the Vikings to modern day, free drama classes and a chamber music concert are just some of the great events that the University will be holding on campus which will reflect the cultural richness of UCC.
The events are free of charge and all are welcome.

• Enjoy a twilight tour of the campus organized by the Visitors’ Centre which departs from the North Wing of the Main Quad (near the clock tower) at 7pm.
• Historian James Cronin will present his talk, A hidden history: recovering mosaic artists Lehmann James Oppenheimer and Eric Newton for the story of the Honan Chapel, Cork.
• Visitors to UCC will get a chance to see some amazing and unique animal specimans collected by Charles Darwin himself at the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences. Displays of reptiles, carnivorous plans and ancient geological fossils will be on display to the public in the Cooperage building (former Cork Distilleries) between 5pm and 8.30pm. Tours will be held at 5.30, 6.30 and 7.30.

•What better way to experience Cork Culture Night than seeing how the culture that we surround ourselves in is created, experienced and researched. The School of Applied Psychology will showcase how psychology applies to what Culture night and Cork captures, looking at music, personality, technology, emotion and even how you travelled to the event.
• The Glucksman is hosting The Art Zoo where they invite you to fill the galleries with your very own drawings, sculptures and paintings of different animals.They will have artists to guide you through different artmaking processes and your creations will be displayed throughout the Glucksman.
•The Cork Youth Chamber Orchestra will play a concert in the Port of Cork offices, one of the cities most beautiful buildings. A selection of music will be played from composers such as Gustav Holst and George Gershwin to name but a few.
• UCC's School of English will present ten minute introductions to some of the world's most celebrated writers and texts, Exploring everything from the Vikings to American novelists to Irish film, these bite-sized ‘Tales’ offer something for everyone.
• The Granary Theatre will present free Drama Classes for children and adults in the Granary Theatre on the Mardyke at the following times:
• The Department of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies will host a seminar entitled "Argentina Since the 2001 Crisis: Recovering the Past, Reclaiming the Future" where they will also be launchin a book on the same topic.
