Kenny: Healthcare reforms must be delivered

The Taoiseach has said ways must be found to deliver on promised healthcare reforms after Health Minister Leo Varadkar cast doubt over plans to give free GP care to children under six by the end of this year.

The minister said he cannot put a deadline on the promise which was made in last year’s budget and was part of the plan to introduce free GP care for all by 2016.

Asked if it will happen this year, he said: “I can’t say that for certain,” adding it depends on how negotiations go with the Irish Medical Organisation which represents GPs.
