TD continues donating part of salary to pay for teacher
Fine Gael TD Brendan Griffin has waived half of his salary since his election to the Dáil in 2011.
Because of an increase in the pupil-teacher ratio and government cutbacks, the 49-pupil school had been due to lose one of its three teachers in 2012.
However, the school has been enabled to employ a third teacher privately due to his intervention.
“I wish the entire Fybough school community well for the 2014/15 academic year and in the future, and know that the very highest standards will continue to be met at Fybough. I also continue to lobby intensely at national level for improved class sizes for all children in the Irish education system,” he said.
Fybough Parents’ Association has urged parents with children in other schools to engage with politicians in their constituencies.
