Kenny must address issue of Callinan, says Martin

Enda Kenny has been accused of abandoning his duty and burying questions about the resignation of Garda commissioner Martin Callinan until after the next general election.

Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin said the Taoiseach’s silence on the matter would leave a “cloud” hanging over the Garda chief’s successor.

Mystery surrounds what was said to Mr Callinan by the head of the Department of Justice, Brian Purcell, who was sent by Mr Kenny to Mr Callinan’s home the night before he quit.
