Dublin and Wicklow to be showcased to Canadians

The beauty of Ireland’s capital and nearby countryside is set to be highlighted to 600,000 potential Canadian visitors as part of the latest campaign to bring holiday-makers to our shores.

Dublin and Wicklow to be showcased to Canadians

Under plans revealed by Tourism Ireland, images of Dublin City and the picturesque Wicklow mountains will be showcased in two separate eight-page special reports by popular fashion magazine Glow later this year.

The magazine is one of the top-selling fashion and beauty publications in Canada, with 600,000 readers per edition.

And while there is no guarantee this captured audience will be convinced to holiday in Ireland on the back of the high-profile spreads due to be published in November and December, Tourism Ireland said it hopes the photo-shoots will help to further highlight what this country has to offer.

“We are delighted that Glow magazine chose Ireland as the location for not just one, but two, fashion shoots,” said Alison Metcalfe, Tourism Ireland’s head of North America.

“With about 600,000 readers, this positive exposure is invaluable — showcasing Georgian Dublin and our magnificent scenery, and positioning Ireland as a highly desirable and fashionable place for Canadian holidaymakers.

“The significant increase in airline seats between Canada and Dublin this year has been a wonderful boost for leisure and business travel to the island of Ireland. Our message is that Ireland has never been more accessible nor more affordable for Canadians,” she added.

The planned Glow photo-shoots are due to focus on Merrion Square, St Stephen’s Green and Howth in Dublin, and on the Sally Gap in the Wicklow mountains.

A previous fashion shoot by Vogue last year, which focussed on the wilds of romantic West Kerry, helped to increase interest in potential visitors from North America.

A total of eight million people chose Ireland as their holiday destination in 2013, bringing in €4bn in tourism revenue — a figure that accounted for 59% of all revenue for the sector.
