VIDEO: Sharon makes headlines with ice bucket challenge

Just minutes after her typically ice-cool sign-off on the Six One News last night RTÉ’s Sharon Ní Bheoláin became the latest celeb to be doused in freezing water to raise funds for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association.

VIDEO: Sharon makes headlines with ice bucket challenge

RTÉ News presenter Sharon Ní Bheoláin undergoes the Ice Bucket Challenge in aid of IMNDA ‘aided’ by 2fm’s Jenny Greene and Nicky Byrne. Sharon was challenged to go under the buckets by the Nicky Byrne Show on RTÉ 2fm and on Tuesday’s Nine O’Clock News by Owen Kelly, whose 27-year-old nephew Padge suffers from motor neurone disease.

A charity page was set up and Sharon said: “I will happily take my ice shower in exchange for pledges of at least €1,000.” The total quickly surpassed that and reached almost €3,000 last night.

True to her word she went straight from the studio to the front doors of RTÉ where 2fm’s Nicky Byrne and Jenny Greene emptied two buckets of icy water over her head. When asked who she was nominating she said: “I want to nominate [RTÉ impressionist] Oliver Callan.”

Meanwhile, the new Rose of Tralee Maria Walsh will take the challenge today.
