Ireland is facing a huge leap in the number of people suffering from dementia, an expert has warned.

Professor Eamon O’Shea of NUI Galway says emigration in the 1950s and 1960s means there are fewer people in Ireland suffering from dementia than might otherwise be the case.

“We still have one of the youngest populations in Europe,” said Mr O’Shea, who will manage the Tipperary hurlers in tomorrow’s All-Ireland semi-final against Cork.
