Ministers have been accused of hypocrisy for forcing pay cuts on public servants while allowing their advisers to smash the Government’s own pay ceiling.

Fianna Fáil’s public expenditure spokesperson Sean Fleming said parliamentary replies showed five aides have been allowed to break the €92,550 wage cap set by the Coalition when it came to power three and a half years ago.

Mr Fleming said ministers were “insulting” public sector workers by allowing the upper wage limit to be breached.
