Garda injured after being dragged by getaway car
Gardaí have issued an appeal for information on two men who were trying to break into a private house at Davis Rd in Clonmel, Co Tipperary, at about 10.30am yesterday. It is understood they were using a crowbar to force the window of the house, which was unoccupied at the time.
They were apprehended by two gardaí who were on routine patrol and immediately got into a sky-blue Nissan Almera, registration number starting 04 D.
One of the gardaí tried to stop the men from driving away but is believed to have got stuck between the car door and the main body of the car and was dragged a short distance by the car as the men made their escape.
He suffered arm injuries in the incident and is currently being treated at South Tipperary General Hospital.
Gardaí have launched a search for the two culprits believed to be from Dublin.
They drove off in the Waterford direction from Clonmel and are both in their early 20s. One of the men was described as having “distinctive red hair with an unusual-looking fringe”.
It is not known why they were trying to break into a particular house on Davis Rd.
Anyone with information is asked by gardaí to contact the station in Clonmel on 052 6177640 or any garda station.
