A mother of five and a woman in her 20s were among six victims killed in separate road traffic crashes on both sides of the border over the public holiday weekend.

Niamh Campbell, 23, was killed instantly yesterday when the car she was driving went out of control and crashed through a lamppost and a wall into a garden on the N17 near Knock Airport, Co Mayo.

Ms Campbell, from Claremorris, Co Mayo, was alone at the time, travelling north towards Charlestown which is about two miles from the crash scene in the townland of Lurga.
