Dead baby found in bin

A postmortem examination is due to be carried out today on the body of a newborn baby who was discovered in a bin at the back of a house in a suburb on the south side of Cork City.

Gardaí were alerted to the discovery after the mother of the infant, believed to be in her early 20s, presented herself at Anglesea Street Garda Station in Cork City yesterday afternoon. She reported that she had given birth to the child a few days earlier.
