Bono’s daughter tells him to ‘stick to day job’

Actress Eve Hewson has revealed how she told her famous father, Bono, to stick with his day job as a rockstar when he suggested following in her acting footsteps.

The youngest daughter of Bono and Ali Hewson has been kept out of the limelight by her parents throughout her childhood but her roles in a string of high profile films and the upcoming American TV series, The Knick, are fast turning the dark-haired beauty into a star.

In an interview with this month’s edition of the fashion bible, W, the 23-year-old said her father has expressed interest in the acting world.

“My dad wants to be an actor now,” she said with a smirk, according to W magazine.

“He’s like, ‘What do you think of me being in a movie with Beyoncé?’ And I said, ‘Stick to your day job’!”

The actress, who had a sheltered childhood in Killiney, was dubbed “The Ingenue” in an article in the magazine, which famously featured Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in a domestic bliss photo shoot surrounded by a large brood of children in the months after his split from Jennifer Aniston.

Eve told how she perfected her American accent in preparation for her latest role as a nurse in the hotly anticipated series, The Knick, directed by Steven Soderbergh.

The show set in a hospital in New York in 1900 is being tipped to turn the Dubliner into a huge star in America.

But the actress said she first had to overcome her horror of needles and blood — with the help of her mum, Ali Hewson.

She said: “I’m a huge fainter. I went with my mom to get a blood test, and I was like, ‘Oh, my God, oh, my God, oh, my God!’.

“My mom said, ‘Eve, you’re about to play a nurse. Get your shit together’!”

The show, which also stars Clive Owen and Juliet Rylance, is set at New York’s Knickerbocker Hospital more than 100 years ago when surgery was still pretty experimental.

The fledgling actress, who studied acting in New York City University, said she had to pinch herself when she walked onto the period set in New York earlier in the year.

She said: “I walked on to the set and thought, ‘Is this actually happening?’”

Despite her father’s global fame, his two daughters and two sons have always been kept out of the limelight by their protective parents.

The budding star first came to public attention with her stellar performance alongside Hollywood legend Sean Penn in the 2011 film This Must Be The Place.

She played the surrogate daughter to Penn’s character who is a depressed rockstar living outside Dublin but she insists he is not based on the U2 singer.

The actress, who has an older sister Jordan, 25, and two younger brothers Elijah, 14, and John Abraham (13), shot the recently released Blood Ties in New York last year.

The young actress recently spoke in Rolling Stone about how her rockstar Dad was responsible for the greatest moment of her life when he brought Beyoncé into their back garden.

She said her Dad also got her and her older sister Jordan introductions to the hottest rockstars on the planet when they were growing up.
