Fianna Fáil slams ‘crazy’ PRSI pay ‘anomaly’

Fianna Fáil has criticised the "crazy situation" which sees someone earning €18,304 annually take home €731 more than a person earning €1 more, thanks to the current PRSI system.

Finance spokesman Michael McGrath has questioned Finance Minister Michael Noonan on the “pay anomaly” which, he said, could potentially impact up to 120,000 people earning between €17,000 and €20,000.

Mr Noonan said the “anomalous situation” arose due to the “step” effect in the PRSI system which brings all income into charge once the relevant threshold is reached.
