Newlyweds who were grounded when their aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing after a suspected fuel leak passed the first big test of their married life together — with flying colours.

And the sunbound couple, who were among 150 passengers on board the flight which declared an emergency over the Irish Sea on Tuesday night, got a five-star hotel start to their holiday when they were all put up in luxury hotels, including the Fota Island Resort in Cork.

Jason and Glenda Reid, from Crookstown in Northern Ireland, who tied the knot on Friday, were jetting off on their honeymoon when the pilot of flight AB419J on route from Belfast to Reus near Barcelona reported a “significant fuel leak” and declared an emergency at 11.20pm as it cruised at 34,000ft about 300km off the south coast.
