Anorexia feeding orders retained

The president of the High Court has welcomed progress made by a young woman with severe anorexia nervosa who remains subject to orders permitting her to be fed against her wishes if necessary.

Since the orders were made last month, the 26-year-old woman agreed to co-operate with a feeding regime deemed necessary to safeguard her life and health and no force feeding has been necessary.

When the case returned before Mr Justice Nicholas Kearns yesterday, he was told by Tim O’Leary, counsel for the HSE, the woman was complying, although not fully, with the feeding regime.
